B.C.'s Longest-Serving Clerks

Thorton Fell served as Clerk of the Legislative Assembly from 1879 to 1920. His 41 years of service to the Legislative Assembly spanned the move from the "Birdcages" to the present Parliament Buildings.

Edwin (Ned) Keary DeBeck began his tenure as Clerk of the Legislative Assembly in 1949 and continued to serve for 24 years, until 1973. He was invited to the Bar of the House on his 90th birthday to receive the appointment of Queen's Counsel, a prestigious designation given to lawyers on behalf of the Crown. The main reception room in the Legislative Library was named the Ned DeBeck Lounge in his honour. He retired just shy of his 92nd birthday.

E. George MacMinn was appointed as Clerk in 1993. He was originally appointed as a Table Officer in the position of Clerk Assistant in 1958. With over 50 years of service, he was the longest serving Table Officer in the Commonwealth at the time of his retirement in 2011. His service was recognized by Queen Elizabeth II in February of 2008.
