Bills are distributed to all MLAs once they are introduced in the Legislative Assembly. All bills are numbered by type, and this numbering of bills restarts at the beginning of each new legislative session. There are three types of bills:
- Government bills are numbered from 1 to 200 and are introduced by a Cabinet minister
- Public bills in the hands of private members are numbered from M201 to M400 and are introduced by a Private Member
- Private bills are numbered from Pr401 on and are introduced under the sponsorship of an MLA
