The Premier’s Rose Garden

Located to the west and the back of the Parliament Buildings, the Premier's Rose Garden was designed by Public Works Chief Architect Henry Whittaker. It was created between 1935 and 1936, largely as a relief project for unemployed men during the Great Depression. The garden is planted within the original footprint of one of the previous Birdcage buildings that was on this site.

There are 12 varieties of roses grown in the garden:

  • Eliza (Pink Hybrid Tea)
  • Pierette Pavement (Pink Rugosa Shrub Rose)
  • Livin' Easy (Orange Floribunda)
  • Easy Going (Yellow Floribunda)
  • Black Forest (Red Floribunda)
  • Kosmos Fairy Tale (White Floribunda)
  • Julia Child (Yellow Floribunda)
  • Souvenir de Baden Baden (Pink/White Hybrid Tea)
  • Dee-lish (Pink Hybrid Tea)
  • Moonlight (Pale Orange Hybrid Tea)
  • Grand Amour (Red Hybrid Tea)
  • Buxom Beauty (Pink Hybrid Tea)
