The Legislative Assembly Management Committee (LAMC) is an all-party committee that was established in 1992 as the Legislative Assembly's parliamentary management board responsible for the Assembly's general administration and finances. The Committee is chaired by the Speaker and consists of MLAs from the government and recognized opposition parties. Before the LAMC was formed, the general administration of the Legislative Assembly was managed by the Board of Internal Economy.
The original legislation establishing the LAMC was enacted in 1992 and consolidated in 1996. Now, the Legislative Assembly Management Committee Act, 1996, states that the Committee's role is to support the work that Members do in carrying out their parliamentary and constituency responsibilities. It also gives the Speaker the formal responsibility for managing the day to day operations of the Legislative Assembly, like public access and security, in addition to any other responsibilities delegated to the Speaker by the LAMC.
The Committee is responsible for:
- The sound administration of the Assembly's operations
- The provision of effective administrative and financial policies and support for Members in the discharge of their parliamentary and constituency responsibilities
- Ensuring prudent Assembly budgets and expenditures on behalf of all British Columbians
