The leader of an opposition party may choose MLAs from their party to serve as critics, observing one specific ministry or agency very closely and asking questions about that organization's activities and plans. Collectively, these opposition critics are sometimes referred to as a "Shadow Cabinet." The critics gain expertise of the issues and policies of that ministry or agency and can provide informed advice and criticism regarding the actions or inactions of Cabinet ministers.
