Adjournment

Adjournment is when the Legislative Assembly concludes its business at the end of a sitting. A Member can move that the Assembly adjourns at the end of its scheduled sitting time. As outlined by Standing Order 2(1), the scheduled sitting times of the Legislative Assembly are:

Monday (two distinct sittings):

  • 10 am to 12 pm
  • 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Tuesday (two distinct sittings):

  • 10 am to 12 pm
  • 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Wednesday (one distinct sitting):

  • 1:30 pm to 7 pm

Thursday (two distinct sittings):

  • 10 am to 12 pm
  • 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Since the Legislative Assembly can hold two separate sittings over the course of a single day, it is often necessary to adjourn the Assembly twice in a day. All business not concluded at the time of daily adjournment stands over to the next sitting of the Assembly.
