The Pacific Dogwood Trees

There are 13 Pacific dogwood trees (Cornus nuttalli) planted on the rear lawns of the Legislative Precinct. The Pacific dogwood tree bears the official floral emblem of British Columbia.

The largest tree was planted in 1997 by the Honourable Garde B. Gardom, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from 1995 to 2001. Another was planted by Lieutenant Governor Steven L. Point near the end of his mandate on November 1, 2012. Mr. Point was the first Indigenous Lieutenant Governor appointed in British Columbia.
