For the first and only time, a sitting of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia was held outside of the capital city of Victoria.
On January 24, 1967, a new session was opened at an ice arena in New Westminster, B.C.
This was in honour of the 100 year anniversary of the first sitting of a Legislative Assembly that was responsible for governing the area that is now modern British Columbia. The Legislative Council of the United Colony of British Columbia first sat in New Westminster on the same day in 1867.
