Preparing for Your Visit
Professional Development
Arrival
Please arrive at the school entrance (see map) at the back of the Parliament Buildings around 10 minutes before the time of your tour.
Tour Route
Tours normally include the four main rooms in the public area of the Parliament Buildings. If you are visiting on a day that the Legislative Assembly is meeting, one or more of these rooms will likely be closed due to Government activity and events.
Members of the Legislative Assembly
We will notify your school’s MLA of your visit and invite them to meet with your class.
MLAs have busy schedules so we cannot guarantee their availability. Consider inviting the MLA to visit your classroom before or after your visit.
Observing Debates
Make sure you book using the 'Tour with Gallery' option if you wish to observe debates as part of your visit.
School groups who wish to observe debates are allocated 20 minutes in the Public Gallery following their tour.
-
As the MLAs are responsible for many important issues, please be aware that sensitive topics may be discussed while your group is in the Gallery.
-
Please consult the (Parliamentary Calendar) to find out when the Legislative Assembly will be meeting.
-
Question Period accounts for 30 minutes of the daily meeting schedule. Most groups will not see Question Period, but will see the MLAs discussing proposed legislation or reviewing finances.
