Visiting the Legislative Assembly

The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia carries out its business within the B.C. Parliament Buildings, located in the provincial capital of Victoria. The Parliament Buildings and the surrounding area reside on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen people. Now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, these Coast Salish peoples have a rich culture and history dating back thousands of years. On this land, British Columbia's past meets its current system of provincial governance, offering those who are curious about British Columbia's Legislative Assembly a fascinating opportunity to experience the politics and processes that have made B.C. a truly unique place to live or visit.

Historical structures, art pieces, and monuments are found both inside and outside of the Parliament Buildings, but most importantly, the Parliament Buildings are where Members of the Legislative Assembly gather to carry out their work and shape British Columbia. If you can visit Victoria in person, there are many opportunities available to experience the Parliament Buildings and see Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in action.

For example, you can:

  • Take a guided or self-directed tour
  • Observe debates in the Public Galleries
  • Sit in on a parliamentary committee meeting
  • Dine at the Parliamentary Dining Room
  • Browse the Parliamentary Gift Shop
  • Attend an event

For more information on each of these activities, visit the Legislative Assembly webpage.
