Parliamentary Procedure Workshops for Public Servants

Parliamentary Procedure Workshop

This workshop is intended to provide B.C. Public Servants with a greater understanding of the Parliamentary system of government in British Columbia.

Presentations provide an overview of the history of Parliament, parliamentary procedure, the legislative process, and Cabinet decision-making (topics may change depending on the availability of the presenters).

Availability

This workshop is offered 7 - 8 times per year to 60 people per session.

We have over 1,000 people on the notification list at any given time, so availability is extremely limited.

We are not accepting group/team requests at this time.

Session Length and Location

Full-day sessions are held at the Legislative Assembly and run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

How to Register

If you would like to put your name on the notification list for future sessions, please register here.

Everyone on the list will be emailed and invited to register for a session once dates are confirmed.

Your name will remain on the notification list until you are able to attend.

Frequently Asked Questions:

When are sessions offered?

Sessions are normally offered in the Spring and Fall.

The frequency and timing of this workshop is based on the availability of our presenters and the schedule of the Legislative Assembly.

Why are sessions normally held on Fridays?

When the Legislative Assembly is sitting, it meets from Monday to Thursday of each week. As a result, Friday is the only day that the Legislative Chamber and many of our presenters are available.

We do try to schedule sessions on other days of the week in weeks when the Legislative Assembly is not sitting.

Is there a cost to attend?

The Legislative Assembly offers this workshop free of charge.

Who can attend?

B.C. Public Servants.

Does the Legislative Assembly cover the cost of travel for particpants?

No.

Is there an online version of this workshop?

Not at this time.
