School Tours

Tour Content

Guided tours provide a fun and informative introduction to the role of the Legislative Assembly, the history of the Parliament Buildings, and the provincial level of government.

Tour Length

Guided tour - 1 hour

Guided tour and public gallery - 1.5 hours

Group Size

The maximum size for each tour is 40 people (including all students and accompanying adults).

Groups with more than 40 people will need to book multiple tours.

As space in the public area of the Parliament Buildings is limited, we cannot offer more than one tour at a time.

Tour Route

Tours normally include the four main rooms in the public area of the Parliament Buildings.

One or more of those rooms will likely be closed if you visit on a day the Legislative Assembly is meeting. The tour will need to be adapted and shortened accordingly.

Arrival

Please arrive at the school entrance at the back of the Parliament Buildings around 10 minutes before the time of your tour.

Observing Debates

Make sure you book using the 'Tour with Gallery' option if you wish to observe debates. Please consult the (Parliamentary Calendar) to find out when the Legislative Assembly is meeting.

School groups who wish to observe debates are allocated 20 minutes in the Public Gallery following their tour.

  • As the MLAs are responsible for many important issues, please be aware that sensitive topics may be discussed while your group is in the Gallery.

  • Most groups will not see Question Period as it accounts for only 30 minutes of the daily meeting schedule. Most groups will see the MLAs discussing proposed legislation or reviewing finances

Members of the Legislative Assembly

We will notify your school’s MLA of your visit and invite them to meet with your class.

MLAs have busy schedules so we cannot guarantee their availability. Consider inviting the MLA to visit your classroom before or after your visit.

Important Information

Tour times, tour routes and the Parliamentary sitting schedule are subject to change without notice.

Tours may be cancelled at any time due to events on the Legislative Precinct.
