On September 24, 2016, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - now the Prince and Princess of Wales - were welcomed to Canada and British Columbia. Thousands of Canadians gathered around the Parliament Buildings to take part in their official welcome ceremony. Upon arrival at the Legislative Precinct, Their Royal Highnesses were greeted by Governor General David Johnston, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon, and Premier Christy Clark, and then laid a wreath under the Cenotaph to commemorate the unveiling of a new plaque recognizing Canada's participation in the 2001 - 2014 mission in Afghanistan.
Following the welcoming ceremony, the Duke and Duchess departed for Government House and from there visited a number of communities in B.C. and Yukon.
