The Tsawwassen Nation Final Agreement was officially signed in 2007 and was the first treaty established under the B.C. Treaty Commission process. It makes the Tsawwassen Nation an equal partner in government-to-government relationships with Canada and British Columbia, and provides for strong and workable interactions with these partners. It also confers rights, benefits, and obligations regarding self-government, land, and other resources throughout its traditional territory, covering approximately 10,000 square kilometers (3861 square miles).
Tsawwassen Chief Kim Baird addressed the Legislative Assembly from the Bar of the House on October 15, 2007, after Members of the Legislative Assembly gave their unanimous consent for her to do so - a rarely bestowed honour.
The Tsawwassen Nation Final Agreement came into effect on April 3, 2009.
