The Legislative Assembly establishes Special Committees to select and unanimously recommend the appointment of Statutory Officers. On November 9, 2023, the Legislative Assembly appointed the Special Committee to select and unanimously recommend the appointment of an Information and Privacy Commissioner, pursuant to section 37 of the of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 165).
The Committee accepted applications for the position of Information and Privacy Commissioner from December 1, 2023 to January 19, 2024. The application period is now closed. The Committee appreciates the interest of all applicants; however, only those invited for an interview will be contacted.
The Information and Privacy Commissioner is a non-partisan, independent statutory officer of the Legislature who provides oversight and enforcement of BC’s freedom of information, privacy, and personal information protection laws. The Commissioner is also designated as the Registrar of Lobbyists.
